If you've looked into P2E games before you'll be thinking the same thing everyone thinks when they look into it...."these games look terrible", and for the most part you'd be right. As soon as Metaverses blew up, largely thanks to Facebook's rebranding to Meta, there have been P2E games popping up everywhere but the vast majority are developed by incredibly inexperienced teams just to ride the hype and just like the thousands of meme coins that have done the same thing following DogeCoin's success, these will eventually fizzle out and be left behind. Luckily for us, there are real game developers that have a very keen interest in this new genre.
Coming in at the top of the leader board and my personal favourite is Enjin which was a community based gaming company way before it come onto the blockchain scene, they are also currently the only gaming cryptocurrency to be whitelisted on the Japanese exchanges, for context, Japan have incredibly strict regulations on which cryptocurrencies may be listed on the country's exchanges...and it takes a really long time to be approved by it's association. Now think about this, where do the world's best and most iconic games come from? Japan! This in itself has me very bullish for this company's future in the P2E genre, let alone it's many other incredible advantages. Enjin currently boasts 28 playable games on their platform, ranging from 8BIT and block type games to AAA style 1st person RPG's and Sci-Fi MMO's....and they're only just getting started!
Gala Games is the 2nd on top of my P2E watchlist. Gala have earned their spot by focusing on quality in their games, not only in graphics but in gameplay as well and with a name like Eric Schiermeyer leading it's charge, it's hard not to get excited about this one. If you don't know who Eric is, he's a co-founder of Zynga, one of the largest mobile game developers in the world with games like FarmVille on Facebook, Zynga Poker and Words With Friends 2.....so yeah, that's pretty impressive. Gala's goal is to have the best AAA game developers in the world create games on their platform and it is off to a fantastic start!! The creator of the game series "Fable", Peter Molyneux is already working on a business sim game, Legacy, for the platform which enables users to EARN from their sim business. Speaking of sims, The Sims creator, Will Wright is working to create a VOX metaverse for the entire Gala platform which will allow gamers to earn NFTs across all of Gala's games. AMC and Certain Affinity are some other big names in the mix but I won't go on too much about them here or we'll be talking about them all day.
Gods Unchained is one game that I HIGHLY recommend for gamers looking to get started in P2E games, led by Chris Clay, the former game director of Magic The Gathering: Arena (an immensely popular online version of the physical card game by the same name), Gods Unchained plays very similar to another popular online card game, Hearthstone, by Blizzard games. While this is a step in a different direction, Chris knows card games and knows what works and what doesn't. God's Unchained has seen HUGE popularity in the cryptoverse as a fun and very shiny game to play and it's completely free to play, though you do have the option of purchasing packs of randomised cards if you were so inclined. I have been playing this game for about 3 months now and haven't spent a cent on it and yet I have multiple cards worth up to 0.2ETH just from random card drops given as prizes for progressing though the game. The card drops do tend to slow down as you advance further but they are still free and you always have a chance of receiving a high value card in any pack. The game's marketplace is on Immutable X which is one of the largest and fastest growing NFT trading platforms on the market with more and more crypto games and collectibles companies using it's services every day.
My final mention for this post is an early game that I think has massive potential, Blanko's Block Party. In this game you play as a Blanko, a toy that very much resembles a Funko Pop-Vinyl figure. Game modes and maps are created by the community and are easy to create with no coding knowledge and can range from races to free for all killing sprees and objective based games like Capture The Flag. There are some maps and game modes in the game created by the developers but they lean more toward the community created events, which is cool in itself. There is a central hub in the game where players can hang out and receive quests from strange and quirky NPC's as well as show off their collections of Blanko's. Blanko figures come in a "box" just like pop-vinyls and will lose some value if taken out to be used for gameplay, so it has a "show off" come "collectible" feel to it. The figures come as limited drops in different whacky styles and sell out very quickly but can also be bought on their marketplace on Immutable X which we had discussed earlier. The game does require a decent computer to run it cleanly so I would check out the recommended specs before jumping in, but it's still in very early stages of development so I would absolutely try to get in as early as possible.
I'll quickly mention the obvious up and comers in the metaverse space, Decentraland and SandBox, these are the 2 most popular and most promising virtual land metaverse games at the moment and have enormous potential for revenue and fun, we aim to create a store in one or both of these games buying and selling in-game NFT's as well as hosting battle type tournaments in an arena built by us. This is only a drop in the ocean of possibilities that lay in wait in these games and early adopters will surely benefit by getting in before they become as well known as the likes of Minecraft and Pokemon.
